Well, in this article I just want to share a couple of things with you that I think that will truly benefit you in the long run.

Now, when I started to play guitar I had plenty of free time…and guess how I spent it…yep.. I was playing guitar at least 4 hours a day. Some may think, wow cool, you had a lot of guitar practice. You’ve learned a lot and learned things very fast. [This posts continues...]

fingertip callusHello all and welcome back to FretNoobs.com!!

Ever tried to play a song or do some guitar practicing and your fingers, especially fingertips, started to hurt..?…A lot? You need a nice set of fingertip calluses!

First of all, a callus is a layer of dead skin that covers and protects the healthy layers of skin from repeated stress like extensive guitar practicing and playing.

To build calluses is a goal for most guitarists. But what calluses are needed for, someone might ask. Well, calluses are protecting the fingertip from the action of the guitar strings and actually make it a lot easier to fret a note.

The only way to get calluses is by actually playing a lot. This can be a painful process so once your fingertips start to ache you should stop playing, giving them a chance to recover. [This posts continues...]

Hello all and welcome!!

So, here is the 1st exercise I’m going to show you. I know it might be boring….but trust me. It will do you good in the long run. By doing this exercise and all the alternate patterns that I’m going to show you below, you build strength, accuracy, you’ll obtain some much needed finger calluses and also practice your alternate picking technique and most important of all, at slow metronome speeds (like 60bpm that I use on the video), it’s a great warm up exercise to get some blood flowing in your cold hands and fingers, before you start practicing a solo or play a song. using a metronome in guitar practicing

Yes, I mean that annoying repetitive “click” sound that can drive a person mad in a few minutes!!

Well, to set things straight, the metronome is probably the most useful tool in your guitar practicing. I cannot stress enough the importance of practicing with the metronome. In order to be able to play licks or riffs correctly (and by that I mean in the correct timing and with true sense of rhythm, either when jamming with other musicians or with some backing tracks in your pc) you must use the metronome in every guitar exercise you’re doing.
